Forward Fibre Harness Assembly
The following steps are required to assemble the forward fibre harness,
starting from the pig-tailed opto-packages. These opto-packages are integrated
forward plug-ins, i.e. they are manufactured directly onto a PCB with a
connector to plug into the forward modules.
-
measure the lengths of single fibre required for each opto-package (see
photo).
-
measure the lengths of the furcation tubing required for the fibres from
each opto-package (see
photo).
-
add the furcation tubing. The two data fibres are placed inside one tubing
and the TTC fibre is placed inside another tubing (see
photo).
-
the protective lids are added (see
photo). Note that this step may not be required for these integrated
opto plug-ins.
-
the single fibres are ribbonised (see
photo). The data fibres are made into a 12 way ribbon and the TTC fibres
into a 6 way ribbon.
-
the resulting fibre ribbons are stripped in the "hot stripper" (see
photo).
-
the ribbons are cleaved in the cleaver.
-
Lengths of 6 way and 12 way fibre with MT12 and MT8 connectors at one end,
are preparred (cut,stripped and cleaved).
-
The ribbon fibres are spliced togther in the fusion splicer.
