Servers - formerly also called Mainframes

A server is a central, shared, computer with significantly more power than any other local machine. These days they are really more powerful PCs with faster CPUs more memory and faster larger disks. As local networks have become widespread these machines now usually have satellite PCs or Workstation to which they```serve'' disks or CPU (by running jobs submitted from the satellites). Hence the name ``Servers''. In the department our main Linux servers are pplxintnn.
