Command Recall

The T shell (tcsh) and the Bourne Again shell (bash) have a command line recall based on the arrow keys. Previous commands are stored and pressing the up arrow key recalls each in turn, starting with the most recent. Pressing the down arrow key recalls the next command. Once a command has been recalled it may be edited by pressing the left and right arrow keys to move the cursor and then using the DELETE key and the standard keys to edit it. Ctrl E moves to the end and Ctrl A to the start. At any time the RETURN key can be used to send the command to the computer; the cursor does not have to be at the end of the line.
