Overview

Purpose

Databases play a central role in an HEP experiment. They record detector constants such as:- Many of these constants, particularly the last in the above list, are time dependent so a database has to record time tagged multiple sets of constants.

A Database may also to hold inventories of component parts and, where appropriate, their properties assembled during detector construction and book-keeping of the data collected during detector operation.

There are a number of commercial and open source Database products. The most important in HEP are:-
