It was at a conference up in Durham and some of my friends decided to head over to a nightclub after the proceedings just to check out the local scene. This place was a dance club with a relaxed dress code so there were many people dancing on the floor and generally having a good time, so they joined in the fun.
While this was happening this one woman seemed very attracted to my friend and she started dancing near him. She was made up with a wild hair-do that had pink-dyed streaks and was wearing a rather slinky dress with a slit up the side that showed somewhat more than it should. She also had these high 6 inch spike heal shoes that showed off her legs well.
One thing led to another and he eventually started to buy her drinks at the bar and they then went outside to talk. Come to find out that she was a computer scientist just out for a night on the town and was a very witty and intelligent person as well as being extremely sexy in those high-heeled shoes. Being a physicist and therefore somewhat computer literate, they had a long conversation which ended in passionate embraces and kissing before they parted...agreeing to meet again the next day for lunch at a local restaurant. He watched in anticipation as those tall sleek shoes walked away in the night.
The next day my friend shows up to the resaurant, sits down at the appointed table, but there is no sign of the beautiful woman with whom he'd had such a good time with the night before. He looked around the room and saw no one that looked like her.
Eventually a smart-looking guy in a buisness suit and sporting the latest lap-top computer sits down at the table and reveals to my friend that he was the 'woman' that my friend had spent the evening with the night before. Though the appearance was deceptive, he was in fact a computer scientist who had started an internet company and was looking to hire people like my friend.
This so traumatized my friend that he ran out of the restaurant
and relayed the entire story to me. Never one to let sage advice go unsaid
I replied to my friend:
Beware of Geeks Wearing Lifts.
