"Design and Construction of a Positron Emission Tomography (PET) Unit and Medical Applications with the GEANT Detector simulation Package"

  • Measurement of our detector system's crosstalk: System consisted of Hamamatsu cross-wired PSPMT and CAMAC and NIM crates. Test was done by scanning the surface of the PSPMT by an LED. General response of the system was examined.

  • Measurement of our detector's resolution: For CSI(Tl) crystals (3mmx3mmx30mm). Test was done using 137Cs and 60Co.

  • Simulation of Positron Emission Tomography (PET) Coincidence Unit. System kept the same as real PET Unit used for a 2-D image reconstruction.
  • Coincidece measurements with the PET Unit. Backprojection to 2-D image from 1-D projections of 22Na positron source. Result: very satisfactory for our system. Further studies are to be done.

  • Simulations for proton therapy. Curve relating the range of protons to their initial energy was obtained.
Below is the 3-D and 2-D representations of the 2-D reconstruction
