Introduction

The function of Exceed is to connect to UNIX systems so that applications can be run on those systems whilst their windows are displayed on the PC screen. Exceed can be found from the Start button by selecting Programs and then the Hummingbird Connectivity folder. As initially configured, double clicking on the Exceed icon leads to a Display Manager Chooser dialogue box. Just double click the host you require from this list. Of course, the remote host has to know where to return graphics output to, but this is covered in section 9.3.2. If your PC mouse does not have a middle button it can be emulated by clicking left and right buttons together.

To change the way Exceed works, right click the Exceed button on the task bar at the bottom of the screen, and select Tools, configuration. This leads to a set of tools, the most important of which, to the novice user, will be briefly described below.
